Holy Week & Pre-Easter Activities

I really had big plans to do lots of activities to lead up through Holy Week to Easter. Starting on Palm Sunday, we began a little plan of making Holy Week books and reading scripture. We got off schedule during the week, but caught up on Friday. I also wanted to do some non-church things related to the Easter bunny. But, all we ended up doing was making and painting salt-dough eggs. Vic even found a branch outside, painted it white, and stationed it in a corona bucket (pun intended!) for us to hang our eggs. It also reminded him of doing something similar with his Aunt Susan when he was young. On Saturday, we made chalk stained glass. But, that is where our themed activities ended. I just couldn't get it all done. However, it was a fun week and I loved the chance to do even a few activities with the kids to celebrate Jesus's Resurrection!

OH! And we also "egged" some friends' houses. So, my neighbor Leah told me about this idea. You fill 12 eggs, hide them in a friends yard, knock on someone's door, and then run. So, we copied her idea of putting glow sticks in the eggs with the candy so they could hunt for them in the dark. However, I had the kids add some funny jokes, messages and scripture to the eggs. Then, about 8pm, we set out to hide eggs at 3 friends' houses. I gave a heads up to all of the moms of course. We actually did it at the Scarmardo's house first about 6:30 because Olivia goes to bed before dark. So, hers were not glow in the dark. But, then at dark, we hid them at the Kiessling's house, the Gregory's house, and the Winkler's house. It was SO much fun taking Atticus & Grace to do this. Atticus was SO into it and would hide them and kept telling me to get back in the car, like he's worried they were going to catch me. He LOVED ringing the doorbell and running as fast as possible back to the car so we could drive away. It was also fun to wait and see how long it took our friends to figure out who egged them. In fact, it took the Winkler girls a good little while to figure it out and it was so much fun reading the texts from Laura as she gave the play-by-play of the girls opening the eggs and guessing. So, it was a huge success and we had so much fun!

Well, the next morning, Saturday, we get a ring on our doorbell and go out to find the Kiessling's driving away and they had egged our house with confetti eggs! SO MUCH FUN! The kids loved it!
