Atticus's 3rd Grade Field Trip was to Washington on the Brazos, about 30 minutes from College Station. There is a Texas History museum and Barrington Farms, an 1800's farmstead with live animals and people dressed up in the times clothes to teach you about life in that time period. The kids go through all of this and eat a picnic lunch. It was a great field trip!
We actually went to this exact site back when Atticus was in 1st grade. He was doing a project on the Alamo and LOVED learning about the Alamo. We couldn't squeeze in a trip to San Antonio to see the actual Alamo during Spring Break (when he was doing his project), so instead we went to Washington on the Brazos for a family trip. It was one of my favorite days. I was pregnant with Hazel and Atticus was obsessed with everything there...the people, history, etc. So, I enjoyed going back with him for his 3rd grade field trip.
I also like going on field trips because I get to visit with other mamas, specifically Stacey Kiessling, who has become such a wonderful friend. She and I have actually done 5 field trips together now (4 for Atticus and 1 for Grace). We have the best time visiting during our drive, and usually sitting in the parking lot visiting some more while we wait for kids to come back on the bus, which drives much slower than us on our trips to and from the field trip places. I also love visiting with other parents that day. Plus, it is SO MUCH fun to be with the kids during a school day and see them have a fun day off to learn and be with their friends and just to be around them kind of one-on-one (without their siblings). So, this was a fun day. Atticus's crew in Mrs. Shaw's class include Greer, Brody, Lance, and Jacob and while I think they are a CRAZY, noisy, hilarious group of boys for Mrs. Shaw, they are also great kids and have great parents. Atticus has the very best friends in his class this year!
