MLK Weekend 2020 & The History of MLK's

Another year, another great MLK weekend in the books! GG and Mom came to stay from Thursday until Tuesday, so we could drive to Lubbock with Katerina on Friday morning and come home Monday afternoon. And before I post pictures and tell what we did, here is a record of previous MLK's:

2005: Original MLK party at the Verett's house in Bryan, with the Ag Interns from Fall 2004
2006 or 2007: We had MLK at Vic's condo with Kristofer and Keller; they came over because their power went out and they had raw chicken wings ready to cook. We watched Unforgiven (the worst movie ever) and hung out all day.
2008 - 2010: We don't remember anything specific. In those years, people would come down to CS for football games or in August or for weddings or showers, but we don't think we had any official MLK weekend activities.
2011: Held in College Station and we stayed at our house: no kids yet
2012: Held in College Station and we stayed at our house: only Atticus
2013: Held in College Station and we stayed at our house: only Atticus; super pregnant with Grace; and this is the year we met Katie
2014: Held in College Station and we stayed at our house; Atticus & Grace; we went out in the limo
2015: Held in Huntsville at Katie's parents house: no kids with us!
2016: Held in Lubbock at Steve & Patricia's house: no kids, but Mary & I were pregnant with Everly & Paul.
2017: Held in Port Aransas at an AirBNB; we had our main crew, minus Katerina; Paul & Everly were with us; Katie was pregnant with Charley.
2018: Held in Austin at an AirBNB; Mary was pregnant with Dean; I was pregnant (barely) with Hazel
2019: Held in College Station at AirBNB; we had Dean & Hazel with us
2020: Held in Lubbock at Kristofer & Katie's new house; baby Luke was with us

Whew! That's a lot of years and I couldn't love it more! For the first few years, Katie, Kirsten & Kinsey and their friends/boyfriends would come join us for dinners and back porch time and Northgate. Also, Cady & David almost always come see us when it's in College Station. And other friends have joined for a dinner here or there during some years as well. Once we started traveling away from CS, it became just the 8 of us, plus or minus babies all the time!

So, this year, our agenda consisted of staying at Katie & Kristofer's brand new, huge, beautiful home! We ate delicious food, drank fun drinks, had lots of back porch time, played a few games (once Mary & I convinced them to play - she and I love games; most Verett's do not - haha!), went to play a version of Top Golf, slept in, and snuggled baby Luke as much as possible. It was the best time, as always and we hope to never stop this tradition.

The things I remember the most about the weekend were discussing "no-till" farming, Abby's online dating guy, baby life, playing Heads Up with the Friends version and the accents version (which Taylor is amazing at), watching Vic try to hit the ball at Top Golf (not that I was any better, but he's so funny), ooh-ing and aah-ing at their beautiful house, realizing that Katerina really did bring a roadie at 6am for our trip, and deciding that we needed to already plan to come to Lubbock next year for MLK!
